From humble beginnings – the tale of a successful local business

In 2006 Andrew Pearse and Simon Atkinson broke away from their full time engineering jobs in the gaming industry to establish their own gaming business. They quickly diversified, opening up growth opportunities for the business as well as providing additional services to their already extensive customer base – now serving businesses such as University of Plymouth Student’s Union, Wet Wok Restaurant, HMS Dockyard.

Take a look through Tamar Industries’ amazing journey and how it has now become one of Plymouth’s leading solution providers.

2014 Investment in Transport & New Projects

Investment was made in a new fleet of Tamar Industries vehicles, sporting the new branding and fully equipped.  2014 was also the year for new large commercial projects such as the refurbishment of the Trout & Tipple public house in Tavistock, Devon.  We were also chosen to support the complete reinstatement of the Wet Wok restaurant in West Hoe, Plymouth following its devastation during the storms on Valentine’s Day 2014.

October 2014 saw the complete kitchen renovation of the Stoke Bar & Grill (previously known as Stoke Social Club) as well as installation of state-of-the-art audio visual system, cellar cooling and CCTV.

A major highlight of 2014 was when Tamar Industries were selected as the preferred service provider for the University of Plymouth Student’s Union.  The contract includes maintenance and servicing of over 80 pieces of catering equipment.

2013 Launch of Catering Solution Division

Tamar Industries launched its Catering solutions division, as Allan Russell joined the team in April 2013. Allan is a skilled and experienced Senior Engineer and Project Manager with over 30 years of catering knowledge to complement the already multi-skilled team of engineers. Very quickly Tamar Industries made a solid name for themselves delivering on large and small scale projects within the catering sector.

2013 Rebranding

January 2013 revealed our new branding. The original trading name of “Tamar Products” was replaced with “Tamar Industries” which became the umbrella brand for the various Tamar Divisions. The rebranding included creating an identity for each solution area that Tamar Industries provide, making it clearer for those visiting the website for the first time.

2013 Increase in Premises

With the increase in staff and equipment, Tamar Industries soon outgrown their unit and expanded into the unit next door which now acts as a storage unit and refurbishment workshop.

2013 Andy Lawson Internal Promotion

In early 2013 we were able to reward our longest serving engineer Andy Lawson by promoting him to Operations Manager. Andy displayed competency in all aspects of the business. He is valued by our whole team and our customers. Andy’s role is to oversee the daily running of the operation and to implement plans and activity agreed by the Directors.

September 2011 witnessed the inaugural Tamar Gaming Golf day. The event was staged on one of the hottest days that Summer, it became an instant hit with our customers and suppliers.

2010 New systems implemented

In 2010 the installation of Ffenics’ Leisure Ease professional software ensured that we had a dedicated and bespoke system designed specifically to meet our business and customer needs. With any new system, it came with the usual ‘challenges’, however with the dedication and persistence of the whole staff team the implementation was overall a complete success.

From the humble beginnings of a Director’s dining room, we soon moved in to new rented premises and employed two members of staff that are still with us today – Andy Lawson and Sheelagh Sowerby.
