The Carew Arms

Complete Kitchen Refit

The Carew Arms is a newly opened pub, general store and café in the village of Antony, near Torpoint in South East Cornwall, breathing a new life into the community and offering a new destination for food devotees in the South West.

Previously a tired, rundown pub called The Ring O Bells, the building was bought by Tremayne Crew Pole, founder of travel and restaurant guidebook Hg2, with a view to bring affordable field to fork cooking to an underrepresented part of Cornwall in collaboration with Emily Watkins, chef/proprietor of the Kingham Plough in Oxfordshire and Fat Duck alumni.

Emily created the exceptional seasonal menu in her role as Consultant Chef, and also worked with Tamar Industries on an extensive renovation of the kitchens and washing area.

Unfortunately, a kitchen was inherited that was not fit for purpose and in desperate need of a complete re-design, with investment in an entire suite of new equipment. Asbestos was found in the old tiled walls that had to be dealt with by a specialist company, it had an old and insufficient aluminum extraction canopy and dated, inefficient refrigeration units.

Being a seasoned professional, Emily knew exactly what she wanted from the kitchen, the equipment that would be suitable and layout that would work best. Working closely with our chief engineer Allan Russell to source the equipment, rip out the old kitchen and install the new one, Emily was impressed with the service Tamar Industries provided…

“Chief Engineer Allan from Tamar Industries proved to be knowledgeable, calm and very helpful throughout the project”

Allan’s calm approach came in handy when the new extraction system canopy delivery from Belgium was delayed. It seemed as though our supplier had taken the Brexit vote to heart and stopped talking us, but thankfully some reassurance from Tamar Industries meant that Anglo-Belgian relationships were restored. The part was delivered late but Tamar hit the definite deadline by providing a dedicated working service that meant The Carew Arms could open for business on time.
